NCAA Clearinghouse – The One Thing You Should Know

October 16, 2008 by Kenney

NCAA Clearinghouse and eligibility centerI am so glad that you are looking for information on the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Why?

Because it tells me you have been doing some homework.

You have been slowly, but surely figuring out the little secrets to getting recruited, getting an athletic scholarship, playing college sports, and you are actually putting to work the information you’re gathering.

There is really one thing that you need to know about the NCAA Clearinghouse…

It’s that they are the “Eligibility Center” for the NCAA.

If you want to play sports in College in the NCAA, then you will have to go through the NCAA Clearinghouse. That’s it!

They basically check to make sure that you are eligible to compete in the NCAA.

  • They check to make sure that you have taken and passed your core courses.
  • They check to make sure that your SAT or ACT test scores are high enough.
  • They make sure that you graduate.
  • They will certify that you are an amateur.

All this may sound like a lot or scary, but I assure you it’s not.

Just go to school, pass the core classes and graduate, take and pass your SAT or ACT test (according to the NCAA sliding scale chart), don’t accept money to play sports and be careful in your dealings with agents and professional teams.

*Note: You can and should take the SAT or ACT more than once. They take your best scores for each part and put them together to give you the highest score possible. They really do want you to win.

Update: All student-athletes must now complete the amateurism certification questionnaire.

The NCAA also has this free guide called, “The Guide For The College-Bound Studen-Athlete”.

Also, here’s a pretty cool, little piece of online software that has every college that is in the NCAA.

That includes:

  • Lists of NCAA Schools and Conferences by Division
  • Lists of NCAA Schools and Conferences by Sport

Cool…So, now you know, if you want to play college sports, you’ll have to get registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse…And don’t wait until the last minute.

To Your Immediate and Lasting NCAA Success,

Kenney & Kimberly Edwards :)
